Police have located a woman missing from Wallsend this morning.

The 69-year-old woman was last seen leaving her home on Invermore Close alone about 9am this morning (Tuesday 23 August 2016).

When she failed to return, officers from Newcastle City Local Area Command were alerted and commenced searching for her.

About 11.30am, the woman was located safe and sound nearby.

Police thank the public and media for their assistance.
