A man will face court today charged over the alleged indecent and sexual assault of a teenage girl.

Detectives from the State Crime Command’s Child Abuse Squad commenced an investigation in January following reports a 16-year-old girl had been assaulted.

Following extensive inquiries, a 25-year-old man was arrested at Tamworth Police Station about 11am yesterday (Wednesday 22 June 2016).

Police will allege the man indecently and sexually assaulted the girl while they were travelling in car between Tamworth and Wagga Wagga in October 2015.

The West Tamworth man has been refused bail to appear at Tamworth Local Court today (Thursday 23 June 2016).

The Child Abuse Squad is comprised of detectives who are specially trained to investigate crimes against children, including sexual assault, physical abuse and serious cases of neglect.
