Teen charged over two armed robberies – Armidale

A youth has been charged following investigations into two armed robberies in the New England Local Area Command during the past two weeks.

About 11.50pm on Sunday 14 February 2016, a 51-year-old man was driving his Taxi when he was allegedly called to Alexander Street to pick-up a 16-year-old youth.

The youth was driven to Kirkwood Street where it’s alleged he threatened the driver with a sharp object and demanded cash.

The driver stopped the taxi, allegedly threw his wallet out the window, before the youth grabbed the wallet and ran off.

The driver contacted police and an investigation was commenced.

About 3.30pm yesterday (Monday 15 February 2016) detectives from Armidale arrested a 16-year-old male at an Armidale address.

He was taken to Armidale Police Station where he was interviewed.

The youth was charged with two counts of robbery while armed.

The second robbery allegedly involved a delivery driver and occurred in Tysoe Crescent, Armidale, on Tuesday 2 February 2016.

He was refused bail and will appear in a Children’s Court today (Tuesday 16 February 2016).
