Police are appealing for assistance after children were approached in the front yard of their home in Blackalls Park yesterday.

About 6.25pm (Thursday 17 September 2015), a five-year-old boy and an eight-year-old girl were playing in the front yard of their home on Rupert Street, Blackalls Park, when a man in a white four wheel drive drove up onto the footpath right out front of the house.

The man got out of the car and approached the front fence of the property before speaking to the children in what the children allege was a suspicious and intimidating manner.

The children ran inside and informed their father. The man got back in his vehicle and drove from the scene.

Police from Lake Macquarie Local Area Command were notified about the incident and are conducting inquiries.

Police are urging the man in the white four wheel drive to come forward and speak to them.

The man has been described as Caucasian appearance, aged in his 40s, with short dark hair and a facial beard. He was wearing a black shirt with grey shorts or pants.

Any witnesses who may have information are also urged to come forward.
