Man arrested for firearms offences, impersonating police – Firearms Squad

Firearms Squad detectives have arrested a man over the alleged theft of guns while impersonating a police officer in the State’s Hunter region last year.

About 8.30am on Wednesday 29 October 2014, a property owner at Clarence Town was approached by two men at his home who purported to be plain clothes police officers.

Detectives were told two revolvers were stolen from the premises, with those firearms recovered during a search warrant at Mayfield East the following day.

Two men, aged 28 and 29, remain before the court on related charges.

Yesterday morning (Tuesday 16 June 2015), Firearms Squad detectives arrested a 32-year-old man at Newcastle Police Station.

He was charged with aggravated enter dwelling with intent, acquire firearm without permit, impersonate police officer and exercise powers/functions, and supply prohibited firearm to unauthorised person.

He remains in custody to appear at Newcastle Local Court on Wednesday 29 July 2015.
