Smash leaves man critical

A 26-year-old man from Woolloomooloo sustained serious head injuries after he lost control of his black Lexus sedan on the Hume Highway at Yass.

The incident occurred on Saturday at about 5.30pm

It is understood the man attempted a U-turn 400 metres north of the Wargeila Road overpass and when he began heading back towards the bridge he accelerated to speeds of up to 150km/h. The man lost control of the car and went off the road before hitting the pylon of the overpass.

He was trapped for over an hour before Yass Fire and Rescue and a number of local Rural Fire Service Brigades managed to free him.

He was airlifted to Canberra Hospital and at the time of writing, was in a critical condition. Yass Police are awaiting an update on his condition.

Painful broken leg

A 25-year-old man suffered a compound fracture to his leg after he jumped out of a moving car on Nanangroe Road at Childowla. The man was in the passenger seat when he jumped out of the car, which was travelling at around 20km/h. It is believed the rear tyre rolled over and broke his leg.

Valuable motors stolen

In the week leading up to Saturday June 6, six starter motors for CAT branded heavy machinery were stolen from a business on Nanima Road, Jeir. The items have a value of $30,000 in total and are extremely heavy. Anyone with information is urged to contact Yass Police.

Driver gets away

At midday on Friday June 5 a black Holden Commodore was seen driving south on the Barton Highway towards Yass. The vehicle was known to police and was wanted over a number of different speeding offences. Police activated warning signals but the driver didn’t pull over. When the chase became too dangerous, police abandoned the pursuit. The vehicle is yet to be located.

Drink driving

A 59-year-old Yass woman was caught drink driving at 12.15pm on June 8. The woman was driving a white Mazda on Glebe Street in Yass when she was pulled over by police. She registered a low-range result of 0.055.

A 48-year-old man was caught drink driving on Saturday June 6 at about 10.20pm. He was travelling in a silver Nissan X-Trail along Hughstonia Road in Binalong when he was pulled over. He registered a mid-range reading of 0.128.

Machinery damaged

An excavator was badly damaged sometime between Friday night and Saturday morning. The incident occurred on the Barton Highway at the McIntosh Circuit turn-off. Yass Police are appealing to anyone who might have information.

Sheep killed at Murrumbateman

Three dorper sheep were mauled to death, and another was put down due to its injuries, sometime between 8am and 10.30am on Sunday June 7. The incident occurred on McIntosh Circuit in a paddock that had only five sheep in total. It is believed a dog killed the four sheep.

Letter box larceny

A letter box was stolen from a property on Weemilah Street in Yass sometime between 7pm on Friday June 5 and 7am Saturday June 6. Anyone with information is urged to contact Yass Police.

Attempted robbery

Sometime during the evening of June 3 unknown person/s have failed in an attempt to steal a compressor from behind a dental surgery on Comur Street.
