Fourth person charged in relation to SF Charish – Hume LAC

Detectives from the Hume Local Area Command have arrested and charged a fourth brother from a religious order in relation to alleged historical sexual and indecent assaults upon children in the Goulburn area.

In February 2014, Strike Force Charish was formed to investigate allegations of child sex offences said to have occurred between 1978 and 1989 at a Catholic college in Goulburn involving numerous victims.

As a result of ongoing inquiries, about 8.05am today (Wednesday 4 March 2015), investigators arrested a 63-year-old man at an address in Victoria Road, Ryde.

The offences allegedly occurred upon one boy aged between 13 and 17, while the man was a Christian Brother at a Catholic school in Goulburn between 1984 and 1987. Until last week, the male was a Christian Brother still teaching at a Catholic college in Chatswood.

He was taken to Ryde Police Station, where he was charged with 2 counts of indecent assault on male, 2 counts of sexual assault – assault & commit act of indecency, 3 counts of homosexual intercourse-teacher of pupil and 1 count of sexual assault, assault and commit act of indecency.

The man has been bail refused to appear before Burwood Local Court today 4 March 2015.

Investigators encourage any victim of any indecent or sexual assault, no matter how long ago, to come forward.
