Man charged over Armidale shooting

A 19-year-old man has been charged after allegedly shooting a man in the leg in the state’s north last month.

Emergency services were called to Donnelly Street at Armidale just before midnight, Sunday 14 December 2014, where they found a man with a gunshot wound to his left thigh.

The 35-year-old man was taken to Armidale Hospital; however, he discharged himself a short time later.

Detectives from New England Local Area Command established a crime scene on Donnelly Street and commenced inquiries. Investigators were told the injured man had approached a green Ford Falcon, parked in the street, before he was allegedly fired upon.

Just before 3pm yesterday (Thursday, 8 January 2015) police investigations led to the arrest of a 19-year-old Armidale man inside a unit on Morehead Street, Redfern.

He was taken to Redfern Police Station and charged with discharge firearm with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

He was refused bail to appear in Central Local Court today (Friday 9 January 2015).
