Man charged with 16 offences following pursuit – Armidale

A man will appear in court facing 16 offences, following an alleged pursuit in Armidale this morning.

About 2.25am (Tuesday 6 January 2015), police attempted to stop a Ford Falcon travelling on the New England Highway, driven by a man and two passengers.

When the car allegedly failed to stop, a brief pursuit ensued, before the driver stopped the car at the corner of Gordon Street.

Police attempted to restrain the driver, a 25-year-old man; however he allegedly spat at a number of officers, before assaulting a sergeant.

Police will allege the man continued to resist arrest, while continuing to spit at police and assaulting a second officer – a constable.

The man was eventually arrested and taken to Armidale Police Station, where he was charged with 16 offences including driver manner dangerous, assault police, resist police, harass police, and licensing and registration offences.

He was refused bail, to appear at Armidale Local Court today (Tuesday 6 January 2015).

Two police officers suffered minor injuries during the incident – one suffering a suspected sprained ankle, while another suffered a sprain to his fingers.
