Police appeal for information following retail theft – Wallsend

Police are appealing for information after a shoplifting incident near Newcastle last month.

About 10am on 25 September 2015, two people – a man and a woman – entered a retail business on Tyrrell Street, Wallsend.

Police have been told the woman approached an employee at the front counter, while the man looked around the shop.

The man is believed to have taken a mobile phone and watch, while the employee was away from the counter.

The man then left the store with the woman.

Officers attached to Newcastle City Local Area Command were notified and commenced inquiries.

Today (Friday 16 October 2015), police released CCTV images of two people who may be able to assist with the investigation.

The woman depicted in the image is described as being of Caucasian appearance, aged in her 30s with blonde shoulder length hair.

The man depicted in the image is described as being of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander appearance, with a thin to medium build and a beard, wearing a black Adidas jumper, jeans and a baseball cap.

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.

Police searching for armed men in vehicle – near Wagga Wagga

A police operation is currently underway, after the occupants of a 4WD shot at police near Wagga Wagga this afternoon.

Shortly after 2pm today (Friday 16 October 2015), police from Wagga Wagga Local Area Command attempted to stop a silver Nissan Navara 4WD, with registration plates CVS-95L, near Wagga Wagga.

The two male occupants allegedly shot at the police car before fleeing.

A pursuit was commenced, however was terminated a short time later.

A pursuit was recommenced when the vehicle was again sighted on Cheviott Hills Road, near the intersection of Pulletopp Road, Mangoplah.

The occupants again shot at police before fleeing.

No one was injured during the incidents.

A large scale operation is currently underway as police search for the vehicle and occupants.

Police are alerting the public, not to approach but to notify police via Triple Zero (‘000’), immediately if the vehicle is sighted.

Fatal crash – Lake Macquarie area

A report will be prepared for the Coroner after a woman died in a crash between a truck and car in the Lake Macquarie area this morning.

Just after 4.30am (Friday 16 October 2015), a b-double hit a Ford Falcon sedan on the M1 Pacific Motorway at Killingworth, about 8.5 kilometres north of the Ryhope interchange.

It’s believed the Ford was stationary at the time of the crash.

The sole occupant of the sedan, 49-year-old woman, died at the scene.

The male truck driver was not injured in the crash but has been taken to John Hunter Hospital for mandatory blood and urine testing.

One lane of the M1 Pacific Motorway is currently closed northbound at Killingworth.

Motorists travelling in the area should allow plenty of additional travel time.

Truck explodes into fireball after crash on Hume Highway at Barnawartha North

A truck exploded into a ball of flames after running off the Hume Highway and hitting a tree on Tuesday evening.

The truck’s fuel tank caught fire and exploded, engulfing the entire vehicle in flames, soon after it ran off the highway at Barnawartha North about 5.20pm.

The driver escaped before the flames took hold and was later taken to hospital.

The cabin of the refrigerated truck melted under the heat of the intense blaze, The Border Mail reported.

It took 40 firefighters from Barnawartha, Chilton and Wodonga about 15 minutes to gain control of the blaze, but the goods inside the truck burned for at least another hour.

Police are investigating whether fatigue contributed to the crash.

Woman charged over alleged drug supply in Newcastle – Strike Force Rupas

A woman will face court this afternoon after being charged over alleged drug supply in Newcastle.

Detectives from Newcastle City and Central Hunter Local Area Commands formed Strike Force Rupas to investigate the supply of illicit drugs.

As a result of their inquiries, a 22-year-old Muswellbrook woman was arrested at Newcastle Police Station today (Wednesday 14 October 2015).

She was charged with five counts of supply prohibited drug (<small quantity); two counts of supply prohibited drug (>indictable quantity); two counts of ongoing drug supply and three counts of drug supply (>large commercial quantity).

The charges relate to the supply of 1kg of 25C-NBOMe or ‘blue scissors’ (synthetic drug), as well as MDMA and methylamphetamine (Ice).

She has been refused bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court this afternoon.

Investigations by Strike Force Rupas are continuing.

Police appeal for information after break in – Tamworth

Police are appealing for information after a number of firearms were stolen from a property in West Tamworth.

Between 4.30pm on Monday 12 October 2015 and 12.30pm on Tuesday 13 October 2015, a number of shipping containers on a property on Warral Road, were broken into.

A firearm and some ammunition were stolen from inside the containers.

The matter was reported to police and the location was forensically examined.

Police continue to investigate and are appealing for information.

Man charged after making threats – Joint Counter Terrorism Team

A man has been charged after allegedly threatening a man and a woman at the weekend.

Investigators will allege a 24-year-old man attended a home in Goulburn on Saturday (10 October 2015), and threatened a 22-year-old man and his 20-year-old girlfriend.

It will also be alleged he had earlier sent threatening text messages to the other man.

About 4.40pm yesterday (Tuesday 13 October 2015), the 24-year-old man was arrested by police from Redfern Local Area Command.

He was taken to Redfern Police Station and spoken to by officers from the Joint Counter Terrorism Team (JCTT) about threatening posts on social media.

These posts have since been removed.

He was later charged with use carriage service to threaten to kill, intimidation to cause fear of physical or mental harm, and use carriage service to menace, harass or cause offence.

He has been refused bail and is due to appear at Central Local Court today (Wednesday 14 October 2015).

Inquiries are continuing.

Man charged over Armidale home invasion – SF Inga

Detectives investigating an alleged home invasion at Armidale last month have arrested and charged a man.

On Saturday 5 September 2015, four males allegedly forced entry to a home on McDonald Drive armed with firearms.

The group allegedly threatened the occupants – a man and woman who were at home with their infant child – and demanded cash.

They fled with money and jewellery.

Police were alerted and officers from New England Local Area Command attended and commenced inquiries as part of Strike Force Inga.

Following extensive inquiries, a 20-year-old man was arrested at a home on Drummond Avenue at Armidale just before 6am (Wednesday 14 October 2015).

He was taken to Armidale Police Station where he was charged with being armed with a dangerous weapon, as well as an outstanding arrest warrant, and appeared at Armidale Local Court.

He was refused bail to re-appear in Armidale Local Court on 19 October 2015.

Inquiries by Strike Force Inga into alleged armed robberies in Armidale continue.

Woman charged after mother's death – Lake Macquarie

A woman has been charged after the death of her mother at Redhead, in the Lake Macquarie area.

Just before 6.30pm yesterday (Saturday 10 October 2015), police were called to a home on Kalaroo Road, following reports a woman had been stabbed.

Officers from Lake Macquarie Local Area Command attended and found the body of a 73-year-old woman with a number of stab wounds.

The woman’s 36-year-old daughter was arrested at the home and taken to Charlestown Police Station.

Police have charged the woman with murder; use offensive weapon with intent to commit indictable offence; and take /detain person with intent to obtain advantage cause actual bodily harm.

The woman has been refused bail to appear in Newcastle Local Court today (Sunday 11 October 2015).

Police arrest Goulburn escapee – Unanderra

A man who escaped from a correctional centre in Goulburn has been arrested.

About 5.10pm (Thursday 1 October 2015) a Traffic and Highway Patrol vehicle stopped a vehicle on Five Islands Road, Unanderra and the passenger, who was identified as the 25-year-old man who escaped from Goulburn Correctional Centre yesterday, was arrested.

Two women who were in the vehicle have also been arrested.

They have all been taken to local police stations where they are assisting with inquiries.
