Man charged after pen gun, drugs and cash seized in home, near Wagga Wagga

A man has been charged after police executed a search warrant at a home in Ashmont, near Wagga Wagga, seizing a pen gun, cash, drugs and other items today.

About 7.30am today (Wednesday 19 August 2015), following investigations into the supply of drugs in the area, police executed a search warrant at a home on Callaghan Street.

During the search warrant, police allegedly seized a number of items, including a pen gun, drugs believed to be cannabis, and cash.

All items were seized and will undergo forensic examinations.

At the home, police arrested a 44-year-old man. He was taken to Wagga Wagga Police Station and charged with not keep firearm safely, possess unauthorised prohibited firearm, and possess prohibited drug.

He was refused bail and is due to appear at Wagga Wagga Local Court tomorrow (Thursday 20 August 2015).

Police seek information regarding wanted man – Albury

Police are appealing for public assistance to locate a man wanted by virtue of two conviction warrants.

Brendon Lee, aged 33, is wanted in relation to two outstanding warrants for traffic and assault offences.

He is described as being of Caucasian appearance, with fair skin, approximately 170-185cm tall, of thin build and blue eyes and blonde hair.

It is believed that he may be in residing in the Glenroy or Lavington areas.
Any person who sees Brendon Lee is advised not to approach him but contact police immediately.

Escapee arrested – Goulburn

An escapee from a correctional centre in Goulburn has been arrested.

Yesterday (Tuesday 18 August 2015), a 28-year-old man allegedly escaped from the correctional centre, and was last seen in the vicinity of the centre about 12.50pm.

Officers attached to The Hume Local Area Command commenced an investigation.

Following an extensive search effort, about 10.50pm, police attempted to stop a Nissan ute, alleged to have been stolen, travelling on the Hume Highway at Narellan.

The vehicle allegedly failed to stop, and a pursuit ensued, before road spikes were deployed on the highway at Pheasant’s Nest.

The driver of the vehicle, a 28-year-old man, attempted to flee the scene; however was arrested a short distance away.

He has been taken to Goulburn Police Station, where he is assisting police with their inquiries.

Police seek escapee – Goulburn

Police are appealing for public assistance to locate a man who escaped from Goulburn Correctional Centre today.

Stephen Jamieson, 28, was last seen in the vicinity of Goulburn Correctional Centre about 12.50pm (Tuesday 18 August 2015).

He is described as being of Caucasian appearance, 177cm tall, of thin build with a fair complexion and brown eyes.

When he was last seen, Stephen Jamieson was wearing prison greens.

Stephen Jamieson is a maximum security inmate in custody for a range of serious offences.

Anyone who sights Stephen Jamieson should not approach him but contact Triple Zero (000) immediately.

19 people test positive to drugs during roadside operation – Albury

Police from Albury Local Area Command had 19 people test positive to drugs during a weekend random Roadside Drug Testing (RDT) operation.

Officers from Albury Traffic and Highway Command and Albury LAC conducted the operation using a mobile drug bus in Albury and Corowa townships on Friday and Saturday evening (14 and 15 August 2015).

Over the two day operation police conducted a total of 116 mobile breath tests and 107 random drug tests.

19 drivers returned a positive secondary drug test and were issued 24 hour driving prohibition notices. Two drivers returned a negative secondary sample and were released.

Further action may be undertaken against driver’s following the analysis results.

Inspector Russell of Albury Local Area Command, said police are very concerned by the large number of drivers testing positive to drugs.

“Officers remind motorists that driving under the influence of prohibited drugs is not only illegal, it is immeasurably irresponsible and dangerous.

“The message is very clear – driving under the influence of drugs can be deadly.

“Drug testing operations will continue and police will go on targeting drivers under the influence to try and avoid any further loss of life on our roads,” said Inspector Russell.

Woman wanted on warrant – Albury

Police are appealing for public assistance to locate a woman wanted by virtue of a conviction warrant.

Lisa Restall, aged 38, is wanted in relation to an outstanding warrant for a stealing offence.

She is described as being of Caucasian appearance, with fair skin, approximately 160-165cm tall, of medium build and green eyes.

It is believed that Ms Restall may be in living in the South Albury or Lavington areas.
Any person who sees Lisa Restall is advised not to approach her but contact police immediately.

Woman detained following discovery of drugs and handgun – Wagga Wagga

A woman has been arrested following a positive drug test and the discovery of a handgun during a vehicle stop near Wagga Wagga earlier today.

About 9.30am today (Tuesday 11 August 2015), police stopped a Honda sedan in Glenfield Road at Tolland.

The officers from Wagga Wagga Local Area Command spoke with the two occupants of the vehicle and the female driver was subjected to a roadside drug test which returned a positive result.

The vehicle was then searched with police alleging that a Webley and Scott .32 calibre semi-automatic hand gun with magazine and one round of ammunition was located.

The firearm was seized for further forensic testing.

Police also located a small amount of cannabis.

The 26-year-old woman was arrested and conveyed to Wagga Wagga Police Station where she was subjected to a secondary drug test. She was later released pending the results of the secondary drug test and forensic testing of the seized firearm.

The 27-year male passenger of the vehicle has been released pending further inquiries.

Cam Scott awarded New Zealand's Country Male Artist of the Year at CMANZ Awards

One of the top accolades in Country Music in New Zealand has been won by country-rock newcomer, Cam Scott.

On Saturday night at the Founders Theatre in Hamilton, Cam took home the 2015 Male Artist of the Year Award alongside Jody Direen (Female Artist of the Year) and Neilly Rich (Duo of the Year).

Woman charged over domestic-related shooting – Bungendore, near Queanbeyan

A woman will appear in court following an alleged domestic-related shooting in Bungendore today.

Shortly before 3am (Sunday 9 August 2015), emergency services were called to a home on the Kings Highway, Bungendore, following reports of a shooting.

On arrival, police located a 40-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his back.

The man was treated at the scene by Ambulance Paramedics and conveyed to Canberra Hospital where he has undergone surgery and remains in a serious but stable condition.

Police were told an altercation has taken place between the man and a 41-year-old woman, who are in a domestic relationship.

Police will allege the woman shot the man in the back with a firearm.

A crime scene was established and three firearms secured. The woman was arrested at the home and taken to Queanbeyan Police Station.

Detectives have charged the woman with discharging a firearm with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and use unauthorised firearm.

She was refused bail to appear before Queanbeyan Local Court tomorrow (Monday 10 August 2015).
