Child approach at Bar Beach – Newcastle

Police are appealing for witnesses after a girl was approached at Bar Beach, Newcastle on
the weekend.

About 10:50am (Saturday 29 August 2015), a four-year-old girl and her mother were walking on the second ramped walkway along the promenade when a man approached the child and committed a lewd act.

The mother observed the man for a short period as he approached other people with children and made contact. She immediately reported the matter to police. Police searched the area and spoke to life guards however they were unable to locate the man.

Police would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or has information that may assist to contact Crime Stoppers.

The man was described as being of Caucasian appearance and aged in his late 40s or early 50s. He was wearing a white jumper, white shorts, dark joggers and a bright yellow/orange cap.

Strike force formed to investigate man’s disappearance – Lake Macquarie

Police in the state’s Lake Macquarie region have formed a strike force to investigate the disappearance of a man.

Christopher Daunt, 27, was last seen in the North Lambton area on Sunday 29 March 2015.

Police were alerted when he failed to return to his Gateshead home and could not be located or contacted.

Serious concerns are held for his welfare as his disappearance is out of character.

Detectives from Lake Macquarie Local Area Command have formed Strike Force Retractor to investigate his disappearance, which is being treated as suspicious.

Strike force detectives have conducted extensive inquiries and are appealing for public assistance in an attempt to locate him.

Christopher is described as being of Caucasian appearance, approximately 180cm tall, with a thin build, brown hair and green eyes.

Anyone who may have seen Christopher or believes they know his whereabouts is urged to contact police.

Registrations open for Beach Soccer Tournament between police and international students

Registrations are now open for the upcoming round-robin Beach Soccer Tournament set to take place between police and international students next month.

To take part, students must register online ahead of the tournament, which will be hosted by the Eastern Beaches Local Area Command at Coogee Beach from 8.30am, on Sunday 27 September 2015.

Major Sponsors include Study NSW, Department of Premier & Cabinet, and Randwick City Council, and the event is also supported by Multicultural NSW.

The tournament will see police and international students celebrate multiculturalism in Australia while enjoying the world game.

Students from Brazil, Chile, China, Colombia, Indonesia, Malaysia, South Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, Japan, the Philippines, India, Africa, Europe and the Middle East, who are studying at schools, TAFE colleges, English language colleges, universities and other educational institutions in NSW, will represent their country during the competition.

The tournament will also feature police from Local Area Commands across Sydney, as well as the Hunter and Illawarra, building on relationships with students from their local educational institutions.

The community are welcome to come and join in the fun; the event is free and there will be a number of cultural and police displays, as well as a selection of international food stalls and live entertainment.

A major trophy will also be awarded to the country with the loudest and proudest supporter base on the day.

Corporate Sponsor for the Safety of International Students, Detective Superintendent Gavin Dengate said the event, now in its third year at Coogee, is growing in popularity each year.

“The event is really about celebrating diversity, with students representing at least 15 countries from Asia, South America, and for the first time Europe and the Middle East, coming together for this year’s competition,” Det Supt Dengate said.

“Soccer, the world game, is a terrific way to celebrate different cultures while promoting social awareness and inclusion.

“The tournament also offers a great opportunity for police to interact with students, help them feel welcome in their new community and work toward stronger relationships of support and trust,” Det Supt Dengate said.

“I encourage any international students who wish to participate in the event to register online – it promises to be an exciting day.”

Rotary Club of Wagga Wagga Sunrise present Wagga Police Awards

Police in the Wagga Region have been honoured during a gala community event at the weekend.

The Wagga Police Awards, conducted by the Rotary Club of Wagga Wagga Sunrise in conjunction with the Wagga Wagga Local Area Command, culminated on Saturday (29 August 2015), with a Gala Dinner at Wagga’s RSL Club.

Thirty three nominations were acknowledged on the night, and awards were presented in six categories, plus an overall award for the Wagga Police Officer of the year.

The winner of the Field Operations award which recognises the outstanding contribution of officers attached to local area commands, which include general duties, criminal investigators and other officers who operate in the local area command environment was Sergeant Ryan Sheaf.

Winner in the Specialist Operations and Corporate Services category which recognises the outstanding contribution of officers attached to Specialist Operations and Corporate Services commands, which includes technical officers, criminal investigators and other specialist officers who operate in the non-local area command environment was Inspector Peter Robertson.

The Rotary Community Award which recognises the efforts of NSW Police Force employees, both sworn and unsworn, whose work has been specially identified as providing benefits to the community directly through a program or other initiatives was awarded to Constable Kristian Swarbrick.

Police volunteers assist the Force in their own time and help to ensure that the community of New South Wales is best served by their police. The Police Volunteer of the Year Award was presented to Ray Pelletier.

The Police employee of the Year award which recognises the outstanding contribution of NSW Police Force civilian employees and reflects the crucial supporting role they play in the daily business of policing was awarded to Claire Chapman.

Probationary Constable Dylan Mugridge was awarded the encouragement award for newer serving officers.

The overall winner awarded the trophy as Wagga Police Officer of the Year was Sergeant Ryan Sheaf.

The Awards are conducted by Rotary to recognise and acknowledge outstanding acts of courtesy, compassion, courage and devotion to duty by any member of the New South Wales Police Force in the Wagga Wagga Local Area Command, which also encompasses the surrounding towns of Coolamon, Ganmain, Junee, Temora, Lockhart, The Rock, Tarcutta, Ariah Park and Ardlethan.

Wagga Wagga Local Area Commander, Superintendent Bob Noble, and President of Sunrise Rotary, Dawn Smith, thanked the community and sponsors of the event for their overwhelming support of the awards.

A cheque for almost $5000, part of the proceeds, was presented to NSW Police Legacy, and the balance of funds raised will assist Sunrise Rotary charities.

Wagga Wagga Local Area Commander, Superintendent Bob Noble, praised the finalists and winners for their inspirational passion for serving the community.

“I am incredibly proud of all Rotary Police Officer of the Year nominees; they truly embody the Rotary motto ‘service above self’, which is evident in their commitment to their job,” Supt Noble said.

“It is wonderful for members of the community to share this night with us, and say thank you for the largely unheralded work that is carried out by local police and support staff.”

Canberra man charged with identity theft after allegedly using fake drivers licence

A 28-year-old Canberra man has been charged with identity fraud, after being pulled over by police on the Hume Highway near Goulburn yesterday.

Police allege the man from Braddon, whose ACT licence was disqualified for traffic offences, presented police with a false NSW drivers licence.

It is alleged that when officers from the Southern Region Traffic & Highway Patrol Command searched his car, they found another three fake licences and a fraudulent Medicare card.

When further inquires were made into the man, it was found he had previously been pulled over by officers from the Macquarie Fields Traffic & Highway Patrol Command in July.

During that traffic stop police alleged another fraudulently licence had been presented.

Following yesterday’s traffic stop, the man was arrested and taken to Goulburn Police Station, where he was refused bail.

Records showed the man was currently disqualified from driving until July 2018 from offences allegedly committed in the ACT.

Traffic & Highway Patrol Command officers charged the man with 12 offences allegedly committed during the two traffic stops.

The offences included exceeding the speed limit by 20 kilometres per hour, five counts of document falsification, four counts of unlawfully possessing documents that resembled Australian driver licences, and two counts of driving while disqualified.

He will appear in Goulburn Local Court today.

Appeal to identify a female’s body – Lake Macquarie

Police are appealing for public assistance to help identify a female who was located deceased at Redhead, a suburb of Lake Macquarie yesterday.  About 2.25pm (Saturday 29 August 2015), police were called to a path off Ocean Street, Redhead, after reports a body had been found by two bush walkers.   Officers from Lake Macquarie Local Area Command attended and located the body of a female.   The circumstances surrounding the female’s death are not considered suspicious; however, police are now attempting to identify her and are appealing for public assistance.  She is described as being of Caucasian appearance, aged between 15 and 25, thin build, fair skin and bright dyed red hair.  She has a number of tattoos including; three small stars on her right hip, a love heart on her left hip and the letters K & P on either side; and an Egyptian eye on her left thigh.  Investigators are urging anyone with information about the identity of the female to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
