Man airlifted from bushland in Hunter region

A man is receiving hospital treatment after being airlifted from bushland in the Hunter region today.

About 4pm on Sunday (31 May 2015), a man camping in the Watagans National Park contacted police.

He reported seeing another man two days earlier – on Friday 29 May 2015 – getting out of a car and entering the bush.

When the car remained in the same place on Sunday afternoon, the camper decided to raise the alarm.

About the same time, a 39-year-old man was reported missing by a family member.

Police have been searching for the man, with the assistance of NSW State Emergency Service volunteers.

About 10.50am today (Tuesday 2 June 2015), the man was located in dense bushland about 200 metres from Murrays Run Road.

At 2.20pm, the man was airlifted to John Hunter Hospital in a serious condition.

He is being treated for hypothermia and minors cuts and abrasions.
