Inquiries continue after truck crash near Morisset

A 27-year-old Sydney man has undergone mandatory testing after a heavy vehicle was involved in a series of incidents near Morisset this afternoon (Saturday 20 August 2016).

Witnesses have told police the heavy vehicle was travelling south on the M1 about 1.30pm, when they became concerned about the way the heavy vehicle was being driven.

About four kilometres south of the Mandalong Road interchange, the heavy vehicle entered a breakdown lane hitting a parked car that had stopped in the emergency phone bay.

The 62-year-old man, who was driving the Astra, was not injured.

The prime mover then went up an embankment and almost rolled before continuing through a number of shrubs and trees before stopping.

The driver, a 27-year-old Gledswood Hills man, was subjected to a roadside breath test which returned a negative result.

After an initial assessment on site by NSW Ambulance paramedics, he was taken to hospital to undergo mandatory testing.

When he is discharged from hospital, police from Lake Macquarie Local Area Command will be pursuing legal action.

Inquiries revealed his heavy vehicle licence had been disqualified. Investigations are also continuing regarding the driver’s log book.
