Police investigate sexual and indecent assaults – Tamworth

Detectives are investigating after the sexual assault of one woman, and the indecent assault of another, at Tamworth overnight.

In the first incident, just after 11pm (Saturday 19 September 2015), an 18-year-old woman was walking along Kable Avenue, when she was indecently assaulted by an unknown man on a pushbike.

The man asked the woman to go into the park with him and when she refused he rode off.

During the second incident, about 2am (Sunday 20 September 2015), a 22-year-old woman was walking through Bicentennial Park when she was grabbed from behind, forced to the ground and sexually assaulted.

The man rode from the scene. Officers from Oxley Local Area Command were told of both incidents and have commenced investigations.

They believe the two incidents may be linked.

Police have released an image of a man who may be able to assist with inquiries.

The man depicted is described as being of Caucasian appearance, aged about 20-25, wearing dark pants, a brown jacket, dark beanie, and riding a pushbike.

Anyone with information that may assist investigators is urged to come forward.

Police investigate man’s death following DEFQON festival

A coronial investigation is now underway into the death of a man, who was found unconscious at a music festival at Penrith overnight.

Shortly after 11pm (Saturday 19 September 2015), emergency personnel were told a man had been found unconscious in a tent at the DEFQON festival, being held at the Sydney International Regatta Centre.

The man’s friends rendered first aid until NSW Ambulance Paramedics arrived and he was taken to Nepean Hospital, where he later died. Police have identified the man as being aged 26 and from Albury.

During the festival, police arrested 60 people; 46 arrests were for drug offences, four of which for drug supply, with two people allegedly caught with 46 pills, believed to be MDMA.

Others arrested were charged with public order and trespass offences.

Nine people were taken to Nepean Hospital by NSW Ambulance Paramedics.

An investigation is now underway into the circumstances surrounding the man’s death with witnesses to be interviewed by Penrith detectives. They are appealing for anyone with information about the man’s death to contact Penrith Police.

Investigators will prepare a report for the NSW Coroner.

During the festival, police arrested 60 people; 46 arrests were for drug offences with the remainder being for public order and trespass offences.

Four of the drug arrests were for supply offences with two patrons allegedly found with 46 pills, believed to be MDMA.

Nine people were taken to Nepean Hospital by NSW Ambulance Paramedics.

In a related operation, a bus heading to the festival was stopped on Sherbrook Road at Hornsby by officers from Kuring Gai LAC. More than 30 passengers were searched with 14 found to be in possession of drugs including MDMA and cannabis.

Subsequent to this stop, a search warrant was executed at a home in Cecil Road at Hornsby. Police allegedly found white powder suspected of being cocaine as well as pills, believed to be MDMA, steroids and $5800 cash. Inquiries are continuing.

Police threatened with a tomahawk – Sandgate

A man has been charged after threatening police with a tomahawk in Sandgate last night (Saturday 19 September 2015).

About 9pm, a 32-year-old man was at a house on Maitland Road, allegedly threatening self harm.

Police were called after the man was seen standing on the roadway allegedly attempting to jump in front of moving cars.

Police attended and commenced a search for the man.

A short time later, police located the man returning to the house armed with a tomahawk. He threatened police with the axe.

Police spoke with the man and he dropped the axe. A scuffle ensured with police and the man was arrested.

As a result of the scuffle, police suffered minor injuries.

The 32-year-old was taken to Newcastle City Police Station. He was charged with two counts of assault police by threatening them with a tomahawk, possess prohibited weapon, use weapon to avoid apprehension and intimidation.

He was refused bail to appear before Newcastle Local Court on Sunday 20 September 2015.

Men arrested after alleged dance party assault – Marrickville

Two men are assisting with inquiries after an alleged assault at a dance party in Marrickville today (Sunday 20 September 2015).

Police were called to a warehouse on Fitzroy Street about 3.30am where they found a 23-year-old man with a head wound. It is believed the man hit his head on the ground after being punched.

He was assessed on site by NSW Ambulance Paramedics before being taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital for further treatment.

He is in a stable condition and his injuries are not considered to be life threatening.

The men, both aged 21, were arrested nearby and taken to Newtown Police Station.
