Woman detained following discovery of drugs and handgun – Wagga Wagga

A woman has been arrested following a positive drug test and the discovery of a handgun during a vehicle stop near Wagga Wagga earlier today.

About 9.30am today (Tuesday 11 August 2015), police stopped a Honda sedan in Glenfield Road at Tolland.

The officers from Wagga Wagga Local Area Command spoke with the two occupants of the vehicle and the female driver was subjected to a roadside drug test which returned a positive result.

The vehicle was then searched with police alleging that a Webley and Scott .32 calibre semi-automatic hand gun with magazine and one round of ammunition was located.

The firearm was seized for further forensic testing.

Police also located a small amount of cannabis.

The 26-year-old woman was arrested and conveyed to Wagga Wagga Police Station where she was subjected to a secondary drug test. She was later released pending the results of the secondary drug test and forensic testing of the seized firearm.

The 27-year male passenger of the vehicle has been released pending further inquiries.

Man charged after alleged predatory driving near Newcastle

Police have charged a man following alleged predatory driving where a knife and pistol were used near Newcastle on the weekend.

About 3.30pm (Saturday 8 August 2015), two men, aged 25 and 41, entered a laneway near Joslin Street, Kotara, and met another man, aged 33.

An argument ensued and the 33-year-old allegedly threatened and chased the other two men with a knife. The two men ran away.

The older man entered his Toyota LandCruiser to get away and attempted to find the younger man.

The 33-year-old man with the knife allegedly entered his white Holden Commodore and followed the Toyota making threats to the driver.

A short time later the Holden allegedly drove onto the wrong side of Joslin Street into the path of a Nissan Navara, who then followed the Holden onto Bryson Avenue.

The Commodore then allegedly collided with the rear of the Toyota, before the 33-year-old stopped the car and approached the driver of the Nissan, a 27-year-old man.

The Holden driver then allegedly pointed a black pistol at the driver of the Nissan and his two passengers while making threats.

The 27-year-old drove the Nissan away from the location and police were called.

Officers from Newcastle Local Area Command attended the location and commenced a search for the Commodore driver, but were unable to locate him. No one was injured during the incident.

An investigation was commenced and today at 11am (Tuesday 11 August 2015), a 33-year-old man attended Toronto Police Station and was arrested.

He was charged with use offensive weapon with intent to commit indictable offence, affray, two counts of stalk/intimidate intend fear physical harm and predatory driving.

The man was refused bail and appeared at Toronto Local Court today. He remains in custody to reappear at Newcastle Local Court on Thursday 24 September 2015.
