Police are appealing for information following an alleged assault of a 44 year-old man at a hotel in Newcastle.

About 12.55am today (Sunday 17 July 2016), it is alleged that a man punched another man at a hotel in Beaumont Street, Hamilton, causing him to fall to the ground before allegedly stomping on his head.

The injured man was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance Paramedics, before being taken to John Hunter Hospital for treatment.

Officers attached to Newcastle City Local Area Command attended and commenced investigations.

As part of their investigation, they would like to speak to a man who is believed to have an Irish accent who may be able to assist them.

Anyone with information is urged to come forward.
