Child Approach – Mayfield

Police are appealing for public assistance after a girl was approached in Mayfield yesterday.

About 3.30pm (Tuesday 15 March 2016), a 12-year-old girl was walking along Sunderland Street when a white car stopped nearby.

Police have been told the male passenger got out and walked away. The male driver got out, approached the girl and yelled out to her.

The girl turned around and ran away, meeting up with her brother in the next street.

Officers from Newcastle City Local Area Command were notified and commenced an investigation into the incident.

Police are urging any witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

 

Two charged over armed robbery – Tamworth

Police have charged two men and are looking for another after an armed robbery in Tamworth last night.

About 9.45pm (Tuesday 15 March 2016), a 28-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman were in the car park of a business on Ebsworth Street, Tamworth, when they were chased by three men.

This caused the man to fall over, dropping his backpack. One of the men then picked up the backpack. The man who took the backpack was also armed with a knife at the time.

The victims stopped a passing motorist who stopped to help. The motorist confronted the man who dropped the backpack and threw the knife on a nearby roof, before all three men fled the area.

Police were called and attended, arresting two of the men nearby.

Both men, aged 18 and 21, were taken to Tamworth Police Station where they were both charged with armed robbery and were refused bail to appear at Tamworth Local Court today (Wednesday 16 March 2016).

Police from Oxley Local Area Command continue to investigate the incident are seeking witnesses to help locate the third male. There is no description of him available at this stage.

Police investigate after man shot in leg – Armidale

Police have been called to investigate after a man presented himself to Armidale hospital with a gunshot wound overnight.

In the early hours of this morning (Wednesday 16 March 2016), a 23-year-old arrived at Armidale Hospital, with a gunshot wound to his leg.

About 4am, officers from New England Local Area Command attended a home in Cooks Road and established a crime scene. There were a number of people in the home at the time.

The man remains in hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police are continuing their inquires into the circumstances surrounding his injury, including if this is in fact a targeted attack. Cooks Road remains closed while investigations continue.

Woman charged with Murder over missing Hunter baby

Police will address the media after a woman was arrested of a woman over the disappearance of Leonie Astra Hutchinson in the Hunter Valley 15 years ago.

Investigators believe Leonie was 16 months old when she disappeared from her home in Scone sometime around January 2001.

As a result of on-going inquiries, detectives attached to Strike Force Kanuna, arrested a 43-year-old woman at her home, in Evans Head, on the Far North Coast, about 7.30am today (Wednesday 16 March 2016).

The woman was taken to Lismore Police Station where she is expected to be charged with one count of murder.
