{"id":743,"date":"2013-12-23T18:41:45","date_gmt":"2013-12-23T07:41:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.australianbroadcastingmedia.com.au\/publishing\/?p=743"},"modified":"2013-12-23T18:41:45","modified_gmt":"2013-12-23T07:41:45","slug":"review-blue-is-the-warmest-color-2013","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.onradio.com.au\/index.php\/2013\/12\/23\/review-blue-is-the-warmest-color-2013\/","title":{"rendered":"Review: Blue Is the Warmest Color (2013)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The version of this film I managed to see was the three hour Canne version, I&#8217;m not sure <a href=\"http:\/\/www.australianbroadcastingmedia.com.au\/publishing\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/blue-is-the-warmest-color.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-747\" alt=\"blue-is-the-warmest-color\" src=\"http:\/\/www.australianbroadcastingmedia.com.au\/publishing\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/blue-is-the-warmest-color-300x169.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" \/><\/a>when it is actually released how long it will be.\u00a0I&#8217;m inclined to think the story could probably have been told in a couple of hours at most, but as it was so good I tended not to mind the epic viewing.<\/p>\n<p><em>Blue Is the Warmest Color<\/em>\u00a0(drawing perhaps from <em>I am Curious Yellow<\/em>?) is the story of a high school girl who meets an older girl in university and the love affair that ensues.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">The film is very graphic in its portrayal of lesbian-sex, but as the french are so good at doing, the film achieves a high degree of art in doing so. The scenes are often more tableau&#8217;s than just grunting representations of desire, drawing I guess on the fact that the older girl is an artist herself. The film also delivers us a beauty that is inconsistent with societal perceptions perhaps of Lesbians in general.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>We only touch on the sordidness of the gay bar culture and are more so just presented with a gentle love story of people that care about each other.
