A police officer has been injured while attempting to arrest a teenager at Elermore Vale, in Newcastle today.<\/p>\n
About 3pm (Tuesday 6 September 2016), police from Newcastle City Local Area Command were called to a home on Crambronne Parade following reports a teenager was allegedly intimidating the occupants and damaging the premises.<\/p>\n
On arrival, an acting sergeant located the teen and spoke to him about the alleged damage.<\/p>\n
Police will allege that while arresting the teen, he became violent and pushed the officer into a parked car and stuck him in the chest.<\/p>\n
The officer deployed his OC spray at the teen, who then ran from the scene.<\/p>\n
Further police were called to assist and the teen was located nearby by a police dog and arrested.<\/p>\n
A 17-year-old teen was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance Paramedics for a laceration to his arm which occurred during the arrest.<\/p>\n
He was taken under police guard to John Hunter Hospital and later charged with malicious damage, intimidation, assault police, resist arrest and escape lawful custody.<\/p>\n
The teen is expected to have a bedside bail hearing tomorrow (Wednesday 7 September 2016).<\/p>\n
The acting sergeant sustained a fractured thumb and is not expected to return to full duties for several weeks.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
