A man will face court today charged over alleged sexual assaults of a young girl more than a decade ago in the Hunter Region.<\/p>\n
Earlier this year, detectives from the Child Abuse Squad commenced an investigation into the alleged sexual assault of a 10-year-old girl by a man known to her at Newcastle in 2004.<\/p>\n
Following extensive inquiries, a 51-year-old man was arrested at Waratah Police Station yesterday (Tuesday 21 June 2016).<\/p>\n
He was charged with two counts of aggravated indecent assault \u2013 victim under the age of 16, and three counts of sexual assault \u2013 victim under the age of 16.<\/p>\n
He has been refused bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court today (Wednesday 22 June 2016).<\/p>\n
The Child Abuse Squad is comprised of detectives who are specially trained to investigate crimes against children, including sexual assault, physical abuse and serious cases of neglect.<\/p>\n
