Roads and Maritime Services will remove trees to widen the road shoulder\u00a0and will install wire rope safety barriers on the median to help prevent vehicles veering onto the other side of the road.<\/p>\n
Work will be carried out between 2.6 kilometres south to around 1.4 kilometres north of the Bargo exit ramp.<\/p>\n
In the five years to 2015, there were 13 crashes at this location resulting in 14 injuries with most of the crashes involving vehicles leaving the road.<\/p>\n
The widening of the road shoulders will allow more space for vehicles to stop in the event of a breakdown.<\/p>\n
Work will start on Monday May 16 and will\u00a0be carried out from Saturday to Thursday between 8pm and 5am, excluding public holidays, to minimise the impact to motorists.<\/p>\n
The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of June, weather permitting.<\/p>\n
For the safety of workers and motorists the Hume Highway northbound will be reduced to one lane with a reduced speed limit of 40km\/h during work hours.<\/p>\n
Southbound traffic may be reduced to one lane as required. Motorists should plan their journey and allow for additional travel time.<\/p>\n
