Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a fatal crash in the state\u2019s north.<\/p>\n
About 3.30pm today (Monday 11 April 2016), a Hyundai Elantra was travelling north on Werris Creek Road, Duri, towards Tamworth, when it collided head on with a Hyundai i30 travelling in the opposite direction.<\/p>\n
The driver of the i30, a 76-year-old man, suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. His passenger, a 77-year-old woman, was taken to Tamworth Hospital suffering a possible broken eye socket and a broken arm.<\/p>\n
The 32-year-old driver of the Elantra was airlifted to John Hunter Hospital where he is suffering serious internal injuries. He is in a critical condition.<\/p>\n
Police from Northern Tablelands Crash Investigation Unit attended the scene and conducted inquiries. The road was closed for about five and a half hours as investigations took place.<\/p>\n
Police are appealing for any witnesses to the crash to come forward.<\/p>\n
In particular, they are asking for a man who was travelling behind the Elantra, and claimed to have witnessed the lead-up to the crash, as well as the crash itself, to come forward and tell police what he saw.<\/p>\n
The man left the scene before police arrived and his details were not obtained.<\/p>\n
