<\/b>A man will face court today after being charged with firearms offences following an alleged barricade situation at a motel in Newcastle overnight.<\/p>\n
About 6pm (Monday 4 January 2016), police responded to reports of an armed man inside a room at a motel on Tudor Street, Hamilton.<\/p>\n
On arrival, officers from Newcastle City Local Area Command established a perimeter and evacuated the motel as a precaution.<\/p>\n
After establishing contact with the occupants of the room, two men exited, while another man \u2013 aged 24 \u2013 remained inside the room.<\/p>\n
No one was injured.<\/p>\n
The 24-year-old Jesmond man was arrested a short time later and, following a search of the room, officers seized a .22 calibre sawn-off rifle and ammunition.<\/p>\n
He was taken to Newcastle Police Station and charged with possess shortened firearm (not pistol) without authority, and detain for advantage.<\/p>\n
