{"id":3086,"date":"2015-11-16T12:45:54","date_gmt":"2015-11-16T01:45:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.australianbroadcastingmedia.com.au\/publishing\/?p=3086"},"modified":"2015-11-16T12:45:54","modified_gmt":"2015-11-16T01:45:54","slug":"two-men-charged-following-alcohol-fuelled-violence-newcastle","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.onradio.com.au\/index.php\/2015\/11\/16\/two-men-charged-following-alcohol-fuelled-violence-newcastle\/","title":{"rendered":"Two men charged following alcohol-fuelled violence &#8211; Newcastle"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b><\/b>Two men have been charged over an alleged alcohol-related assault and offensive behaviour in Newcastle last night.<\/p>\n<p>About 7.30pm (Sunday 15 November 2015), police from Newcastle City Local Area Command were called to a licensed premises on Kendrick Street, The Junction, following reports a security officer had been assaulted.<\/p>\n<p>Police were told the men were asked to leave the licensed premises due to their level of intoxication, to which they refused.<\/p>\n<p>The pair was escorted from the hotel by security and as they left, it is alleged they assaulted a security guard.<\/p>\n<p>After leaving the location, the pair walked down Glebe Road and one of the men allegedly exposed himself to a group of people who were dining at a nearby restaurant.<\/p>\n<p>On arrival, officers located two men allegedly yelling and swearing, as they attempted to entice passersby to fight.<\/p>\n<p>The men \u2013 aged 21 and 29 \u2013 allegedly challenged police but were arrested without incident and taken to Newcastle Police Station.<\/p>\n<p>The 21-year-old Queensland man was charged with fail to quit, assault, wilful and obscene exposure in\/near public place, and offensive behaviour.<\/p>\n<p>The 29-year-old Merewether man was charged with assault and offensive behaviour.<\/p>\n<p>Both men have been granted strict conditional bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court on Thursday 10 December 2015.<\/p>\n<p>Inquiries are continuing.<\/p>\n<p>Newcastle City Local Area Commander, Superintendent John Gralton, said local police would continue the approach of \u2018consequence policing\u2019 to alcohol-related violence and anti-social behaviour.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have zero tolerance policy to alcohol-fuelled assaults in Newcastle and it\u2019s a simple concept \u2013 if you play up, you\u2019re going to be locked up,\u201d Supt Gralton said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll officers are tasked to ensure the safety of our community and there are consequences for people who are behaving badly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cParticularly as we approach the busy summer season, our message is clear: It is not okay to come into town, drink to excess and punch on.
