A man has been charged with attempted murder following an alleged assault in Maitland yesterday.
\nEmergency services were called to a home on Catherine Street just before 1.30pm yesterday (Tuesday 8 September 2015), where they found a woman with serious head injuries.<\/p>\n
The 38-year-old has been taken to John Hunter Hospital where she is understood to be in a serious condition.<\/p>\n
Police from Central Hunter Local Area Command established a crime scene at the home and commenced inquiries.<\/p>\n
Police allege the woman was involved in an altercation with her ex-partner when she was struck with a hammer and metal bar.<\/p>\n
The 23-year-old man was arrested a short time later at a nearby car park.<\/p>\n
He was taken to Maitland Police Station where he was charged with attempted murder. He was refused bail to appear at Maitland Local Court today (Wednesday 9 September 2015).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
