<\/b>Police from New England Local Area Command are appealing for public assistance following the armed robbery of a post office in Armidale today.<\/p>\n
About 4.15pm (Monday 7 September 2015) two men armed with machetes entered the store on Queen Elizabeth Drive.<\/p>\n
The men threatened the two female staff members and seven customers who were inside the store at the time, demanding cash from the till.<\/p>\n
One of the armed men jumped the counter and emptied both tills before demanding access to the store safe.<\/p>\n
Money was taken from the safe and as the two men were leaving the store they assaulted a female customer and stole her purse.<\/p>\n
The 80-year-old woman suffered minor injuries that did not require treatment.<\/p>\n
A crime scene was established while detectives from Armidale conduct further inquiries.<\/p>\n
The men have only been described as Aboriginal\/Torres Strait Islander in appearance and had their faces covered with bandannas.<\/p>\n
