{"id":2324,"date":"2015-06-09T14:37:09","date_gmt":"2015-06-09T04:37:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.australianbroadcastingmedia.com.au\/publishing\/?p=2324"},"modified":"2015-06-09T14:37:09","modified_gmt":"2015-06-09T04:37:09","slug":"p-plate-hoons-take-to-hume-racetrack","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.onradio.com.au\/index.php\/2015\/06\/09\/p-plate-hoons-take-to-hume-racetrack\/","title":{"rendered":"P-plate hoons take to Hume racetrack"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>PROBATIONARY drivers have raised the ire of Albury police with four of them caught flouting their licence conditions over the long weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Three were caught driving at least 40 km\/h over the speed limit \u2014 one clocking 174 km\/h on the Hume Highway \u2014 and the fourth drink- driving.<\/p>\n<p>The flagrant breach involved a Sydney man, 33, driving a twin-turbo Audi V8.<\/p>\n<p>Police who were conducting Operation Stay Alert caught him driving at 74km\/h over the limit on the Hume Highway near Holbrook on Saturday about 5.30pm.<\/p>\n<p>He had 100km\/h limit condition on his licence.<\/p>\n<p>Sergeant Andrew Pike said a crash at that detected speed would have almost certainly been fatal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe is inexperienced and was driving a high-performance car,\u201d Sgt Pike said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHis chances of surviving a crash are extremely limited.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The other speedsters were another Sydney man, 32, travelling at 56km\/h over the limit on the Hume at Woomargama early on Saturday and a youth, 17, at 40km\/h over the limit at Table Top early on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>An Albury woman 26, was caught driving with a blood alcohol reading of 0.240 in Logan Road, Albury about 2.30am Sunday. She also refused to provide a secondary sample at Albury police station. As a P-plater she was required to drive alcohol-free.<\/p>\n<p>In Wodonga, police said drug-drivers were again a real concern over the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>While figures were not available yesterday, Sgt Cameron Roberts said the number of drug-drivers caught was \u201cinto double figures\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDrug-driving is something that will continue as an issue,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re testing for it more and more and so we\u2019re going to get more positives.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople shouldn\u2019t have these sorts of substances in them at any time and it\u2019s made worse by driving a vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDrug testing in Victoria is expanding and the chances of getting caught are going to significantly increase.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sgt Roberts said the number of positive drug tests on drivers in Wod-onga was surprising.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s an element of disappointment,\u201d he said. \u201cThe positive side is that we\u2019re aware of it and picking it up.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s being targeted and targeted quite successfully.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Police on both sides of the border were mostly happy with drivers\u2019 behaviour at the weekend and that there were no deaths of serious injuries in the region.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>PROBATIONARY drivers have raised the ire of Albury police with four of them caught flouting their licence conditions over the long weekend.
