<\/b>Police have charged a pair of teenage boys after two international students were allegedly robbed with a samurai sword in Newcastle yesterday.<\/p>\n
About 8.30pm (Saturday 23 May 2015), two teenage boys \u2013 both aged 16 – allegedly approached the two university students \u2013 aged 21 and 23 \u2013 in the Warabrook Railway Station car park.<\/p>\n
One of teens allegedly threatened the two students with a 30cm-bladed samurai sword and demanded they hand over their possessions. The students complied and handed over cash and their mobile phones. The teens then allegedly ran from the area.<\/p>\n
Officers from Newcastle City Local Area Command were called and an investigation was commenced.<\/p>\n
A short time later, police were patrolling Maitland Road at Mayfield West when they sighted the two teens. One of the teens allegedly ran from police but was apprehended a short distance away.<\/p>\n
Both teens were arrested and taken to Waratah Police Station. Each was charged with two counts of robbery whilst armed with an offensive weapon.<\/p>\n
