A man been charged following an alleged pursuit in Medowie last night.<\/p>\n
About 10pm (Saturday 29 March 2015), Traffic and Highway Patrol Command officers attached to Port Stephens Highway Patrol observed a white Holden Commodore allegedly travelling above the speed limit along Medowie Road.<\/p>\n
Officers attempted to pull over the vehicle and when the vehicle failed to stop, a pursuit was initiated.<\/p>\n
The vehicle travelled north along Medowie Road and then east along Richardson Road where it allegedly reached speeds over 200km\/h.<\/p>\n
A short time later, the vehicle clipped a gutter on Nelson Bay Road which caused tyre damage. The 31-year-old driver allegedly ran from the vehicle and was arrested by police after a short foot pursuit.<\/p>\n
Police searched the man and allegedly located a small quantity of a prohibited drug suspected of being methylamphetamine (\u201cice\u201d).<\/p>\n
The man was taken to Raymond Terrace Police Station and charged with several offences:<\/p>\n
– police pursuit \u2013 not stop \u2013 drive recklessly (\u2018Skye\u2019s Law\u2019);<\/p>\n
– exceed speed over 10km\/h;<\/p>\n
– possess prohibited drug;<\/p>\n
– drive while licence suspended;<\/p>\n
– custody of knife in public place<\/p>\n
As the man was the registered owner, the numberplates of the vehicle were also confiscated for a three-month period.<\/p>\n
