Police have charged a man after a seven-year-old boy died in a car crash at Williamtown in the state\u2019s Hunter region earlier this year.
\nAbout 4.10pm on Wednesday 21 January 2015, a Nissan Pathfinder was travelling south along Medowie Road.<\/p>\n
As the vehicle approached banked-up traffic near the intersection of Nelson Bay Road, it drove along a grass section of road to the left of the waiting traffic.<\/p>\n
The 4WD became airborne near a gully and impacted heavily on the opposite side.<\/p>\n
A seven-year-old boy seated in the rear of the car sustained serious internal injuries and was transported to John Hunter Hospital; however, he later died.<\/p>\n
Three other children travelling in the car were also taken to hospital for minor injuries, before being released.<\/p>\n
The driver, a 35-year-old man, was subjected to mandatory blood and urine testing.<\/p>\n
Following inquiries by the Hunter Crash Investigation Unit, a 35-year-old man attended Liverpool Police Station about 10.30am today (Tuesday 24 March 2015). He has been charged with:<\/p>\n
– Dangerous driving occasioning death \u2013 drive under influence;<\/p>\n
– Aggravated dangerous driving occasioning death \u2013 influence drug or drugs;<\/p>\n
– Dangerous driving occasioning death \u2013 drive manner dangerous; and<\/p>\n
– Drive vehicle \u2013 illicit drug present in blood, etc.<\/p>\n
The man has been granted conditional bail to appear at Raymond Terrace Local Court on Monday 25 May 2015.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
