Detectives have now charged a 49-year-old man over the fatal stabbing of a 48-year-old man at Cessnock at the weekend.<\/p>\n
Police were called to an address in Edgeworth Street shortly after 1am (Sunday 1 March, 2015) following reports of a stabbing.<\/p>\n
On arrival police found a 49-year-old man with a number of stab wounds. He was unable to be revived at the scene.<\/p>\n
While officers were conducting investigations into the stabbing, a 49-year-old man attended the scene.<\/p>\n
He appeared to be suffering a number of wounds and was placed under arrest before being taken to John Hunter Hospital for treatment.<\/p>\n
About 5.30pm yesterday (Monday 2 March, 2015) the man was released from hospital into the custody of police.<\/p>\n
He was taken to Newcastle Police Station where he was charged with murder, common assault, intimidation, and breaching an apprehended violence order.<\/p>\n
He was refused bail and will appear in Newcastle Local Court today (Tuesday 3 March, 2015).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
