Mozart <\/span><\/span><\/i>and Wagner Make a Scene, Harbour City Opera returns <\/span><\/span>to execute one of Puccini\u2019s most adventurous compositions, Suor Angelica<\/span><\/span><\/i>. Making an impact on the <\/span><\/span>Sydney Opera scene Harbour City Opera are determined to reignite opera\u2019s flare and passion in the hearts of a whole new audience, with some of Australia\u2019s most talented, young vocalists. Held on Wednesday 25 and Thursday 26<\/span><\/span>th\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>September at the monumental Paddington Uniting Church, this performance depicts the second instalment of Puccini\u2019s triptych of one-act operas. Suor Angelica chronicles the fall, redemption, and final transfiguration of its protagonist, Sister Angelica. Performed by the company\u2019s Director, Sarah Ann Walker, Sister Angelica is forced to take the veil in repentance, following a youthful indiscretion, consequently being consumed by a downward spiral of heartbreak and betrayal. This symbolic symphony illustrates Puccini\u2019s musicodramatic style, with his ability to identify himself with his subject, ensuring each opera has its own distinctive ambience. Recognised as one of the most poignant moments in any of Puccini\u2019s work, Angelica\u2019s aria \u2018Senza Mamma\u2019 remains a recital favourite. Music Director, Sharolyn Kimmorley\u2019s support of \u2018singers with razor sharp comic timing and killer voices\u2019, as described by Limelight magazine, perfectly compliments this astonishingly beautiful composition.<\/p>\n \u2018This production of Suor Angelica symbolises exactly what Harbour City Opera stands for, combining extremely talented young artists with the opportunity to develop the audience\u2019s love of opera with performances by these incredibly gifted musician,\u2019 explains Walker.
