Eleven prominent contemporary visual artists from Australia come together to create a uniquely music inspired exhibition with each artist choosing an iconic piece of Australasian music, using it as inspiration for their own original artwork, culminating in the Art of Music Charity Auction and a sumptuous Gala Dinner, with some very special guests and live entertainment.

The field of amazing artists presenting works for 2014 are Giles Alexander, Lucy Culliton, Nicholas Harding, Fiona Lowry, Guy Maestri, Amanda Marburg, Ben Quilty, Luke Sciberras, Alexander Seton, Leslie Rice and Michael Zavros. Bio information on each of the artists, as well as their chosen piece of music (see below for full list), can be found at www.artofmusic.com.au/artists.

Art of Music 2014 will also include three very special musical performances highlighting the works of art on display on the night.

Don Walker is legend in Australian music and a man who needs no introduction. As Jerry Lee Lewis once said, great singers sound like they’re telling the truth and that’s a line that fits Don Walker to a tee. From Cold Chisel to his hugely successful solo career, Don Walker is a musician’s musician and Art of Music is thrilled he has agreed to perform on the night.

Also generously giving up her time to appear is multi-ARIA Award winning Missy Higgins. Singer/songwriter Missy Higgins has struck a profound chord with Australian music fans with her irresistible melodies, ‘arrow through the heart’ lyrics and a voice that clearly means it and Art of Music welcomes and thanks Missy for generously supporting the event.

Sharing the stage on the night will be Sydney based singer/songwriter, Sunny Amoreena, who will be performing one of the songs on display on the night.

“Art of Music first came together because of my love of music and the visual arts,” said Jenny Morris. “I have lots of friends in both areas and I thought I could push my friendships with them to help out. Now, 8 years on, the event has gone from strength to strength and I’m so proud to be able to help such a great cause”

All proceeds from the Gala Dinner and Charity Auction go to Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy who transform lives through music. Registered Music Therapists use the power of music in live and interactive sessions to help people cope with the struggles of living with a wide range of needs. These include children and adults with physical and intellectual disabilities, autism, trauma, illness, dementia, behaviour disorders and learning difficulties.

Tickets to this special event are available now and the booking form is available from –

http://events.ticketbooth.com.au/event/ArtofMusic

Art of Music

Saturday, 14 June, 2014

6.00pm – Artwork viewing

7.00pm – Dinner & Auction

Grand Court – Art Gallery of New South Wales
Art Gallery Road, The Domain, Sydney

Artist
Song
By

Giles Alexander
Aether
The Necks

Lucy Culliton
Young Girls
Don Walker

Nicholas Harding
Where the Wild Roses Grow
Nick Cave & Kylie Minogue

Fiona Lowry
Everything’s Turning to White
Paul Kelly

Guy Maestri
Are You Leaving For The Country
The Drones

Amanda Marburg
That Ain’t Bad
Ratcat

Ben Quilty
The Sound of White
Missy Higgins

Leslie Rice
Back in Black
AC/DC

Luke Sciberras
The Belly of the Whale
Megan Washington

Alexander Seton
Desert Island
Architecture in Helsinki

Michael Zavros
Royals
Lorde

Dress Code:

Special Occasion

DON WALKER, MISSY HIGGINS AND SUNNY AMOREENA CONFIRMED TO PERFORM Jenny Morris together with Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy are delighted to once again bring one of Sydney’s most unique and dynamic fundraising events, Art of Music, to the Art Gallery of New South Wales on Saturday, 14 June, 2014.
