\nspeaker Wendy Harmer. She is one of Australia\u2019s most
\nrespected and versatile entertainers \u2013 broadcaster,
\nauthor, journalist and stage performer. Wendy will speak
\nabout how the passion for reading shaped her life.

Thursday 15 7:30pm Musica Viva presents American Brass Quintet. The
\nworld\u2019s leading \u2018high priests of brass\u2019 bring their richtoned
\nand perfectly matched sound to this unforgettable,
\nmasterly concert, spanning the centuries from the
\ngrandeur of Renaissance.<\/p>\n
AUGUST<\/p>\n
Thursday 28 7:00pm The Song Company presents Vocal Fireworks. In
\nthis first-time collaboration with The Song Company,
\nDanish Guest Director and composer Bo Holten leads a
\nfiery program of neck-breaking speeds, hair-raising leaps
\nand awe-inspiring harmonies. Bo Holten is one of
\nDenmark\u2019s most admired musicians. His Operation Orfeo
\nis his country\u2019s most performed opera. Holten\u2019s
\nimpressive oeuvre includes concertos and vocal works,
\nand music for Lars von Trier\u2019s film The Element of Crime.<\/p>\n
SEPTEMBER<\/p>\n
Thursday 4 7:30pm Musica Viva presents Imogen Cooper. One of the
\ngreatest pianists of her generation, Imogen Cooper CBE
\nmakes a long overdue return to Australia for this special
\nprogram highlighting her poetic, insightful interpretations
\nof the composers closest to her heart: Brahms, Schubert
\nand Schumann.<\/p>\n
Thursday 25 7:30pm Musica Viva presents Borodin Quartet. The
\nlegendary Borodin String Quartet is approaching its 70th
\nconcert season, so every concert glows with the
\nunmistakable authenticity of experience and knowledge:
\nthe power behind the mighty \u2018Borodin sound\u2019, heard at its
\nfinest in music by Shostakovich and Beethoven.<\/p>\n

Thursday 25 7:00pm The Song Company presents Bach\u2019s Mass in B
\nMinor. In a rare soloistic performance, the singers of
\nThe Song Company and Ironwood Chamber Ensemble
\ncombine to present Johann Sebastian Bach\u2019s magnificent
\nMass in B Minor featuring one voice per part vocal
\nscoring. It took a Lutheran composer to write the most
\nexpansive and profound setting of the Latin Mass ever
\nconceived.<\/p>\n
NOVEMBER<\/p>\n
Saturday 8 7:30pm Musica Viva presents Ray Chen with Timothy
\nYoung. Raised in Brisbane, jet-setting virtuoso Ray Chen
\nis one of the brightest stars in the new generation of
\nviolinists. His first national recital tour (with the sensitive
\naccompaniment of Timothy Young) has all the
\nspectacular fireworks you could wish for, from the
\nelegant finesse of Mozart and Prokofiev to the exuberant
\nacrobatics of Sarasate.<\/p>\n
